Back in November 2009 I shot the the 5th International Tango Festival here in London. The first real assignment for me. Beside the fact that I know nothing about Tango it was a jump into cold water as I had no idea how much light would be available, as this was a kind of "concert" environment, with darkness and some light spots for the dancers. Forced to shot from distance, I purchased a couple of days before the prime lens Nikon 85mm 1.8 to have the ability to focus a bit closer. At the venue, I checked the light circumstances. As dancers are "moving objects" I needed a decent shutter speed to get sharp images, at least 1/100 of a sec. To get there, I had to shoot with widest aperture possible plus ISO between 5000 and 6400. I rested the most of the time the camera on my knee and shot just when the dancers slowed down or even stoped for a moment. At the end I shot during the 2 days about 1400 frames - a lot of them not usable.
These pictures shown here are my personal favourites from the day. You can find the rest of them here at the slideshow. Click here

I LOVE your use of lighting! It's hard for me to imagine when, or how I'll get to that level.. And I know how hard it is taking not only low lighting pictures (seems to be only window and a few lightly lit chandeliers) , but while they're dancing too. Really excellent pictures.. I envy the fact that you get to be there.. must be awesome experience, and i noticed in some of the pictures that you seem to know a few of the dancers
